What Actually Happens When You Hire Us for GEO Work
A plain-English guide to how we help businesses get found by AI search tools like ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews
You have probably heard the term GEO thrown around. Generative Engine Optimisation. It sounds technical. It sounds expensive. And if you are a business owner trying to work out what it actually means for you, most of what you find online is either too vague or too full of jargon to be useful.
So let us fix that.
This article explains what GEO is, why it matters, and exactly what we do when a client asks us to help them with it. No fluff. No promises we cannot back up. Just the process, the tools, and the thinking behind it.
First, what is GEO and why should you care?
When someone asks ChatGPT, Perplexity, or Google's AI Overview a question about your industry, your business either gets mentioned or it does not.
That is GEO in a nutshell. It is about making sure your business, your expertise and your content are visible in the answers that AI tools give to real questions from real people. People who might become your customers.
Traditional SEO focuses on ranking in search results. GEO focuses on being cited, referenced and recommended when AI tools generate answers. The two work together, but they are not the same thing.
If your competitors are showing up in AI answers and you are not, that is a problem. And it is one that is only going to get bigger as more people use AI tools to find services, compare options and make decisions.
It all starts with discovery

Our discovery phase is where we learn about your business, your customers and where you currently stand in AI search.
We do not start with tools. We do not start with keywords. We start with people.
The first thing we do is talk to you. We want to understand your business in your own words. What you do. Who you do it for. What makes you different. We will ask to speak to your team as well, because different people in a business often see things from different angles. A salesperson will tell us something different from a delivery manager or a customer service lead.
If we can, we also want to hear from your customers. What were they looking for when they found you? What language do they use? Where do they spend time online? This gives us something incredibly valuable that no amount of software can replace. Real human insight.
The more people we speak to, the better picture we get. That picture shapes everything that comes next.
Then we dig into the research
Once we understand the human side of your business, we bring in the tools. Over the past twelve months we have built and refined a set of AISEO tools that combine real data with large language models and AI agents. These tools do things that would have taken hours to do manually. In some cases, days.
Here is what we are looking at during the research phase.
Where you currently appear in AI search. We run scans across platforms like ChatGPT and Perplexity to see if and how your business is being mentioned. Our AI Content Scorer checks your citation performance, giving us a clear picture of your current visibility.
What questions people are asking. We use keyword research tools alongside AI prompt banks to understand the questions your potential customers are typing into AI tools. Not just Google. The real questions people ask when they want honest answers.
What your competitors are doing. We look at who is showing up in AI answers for queries related to your industry. We check what content they have, how it is structured, and why AI tools are choosing to cite them.
What format works best for your audience. This is where the discovery conversations pay off. Some audiences respond to short-form video on TikTok. Others want detailed guides and long-form written content. Some are driven by facts and figures. We work towards the persona we have identified, not a one-size-fits-all content plan.
Human checking is not optional
This is important. Every piece of research and every recommendation goes through human review. AI tools are brilliant at gathering data and spotting patterns, but they can get things wrong. They can hallucinate. They can miss context that a human would spot immediately.
Our team checks the data against reality. Does this actually make sense for your business? Is this recommendation practical? Is the information accurate? We do not hand over anything to a client that has not been checked by a person who understands both the tools and your business.
Working out the best way forward
Our process moves from discovery through research, into strategy and finally measurable results.
With the research done and checked, we put together a plan. This is tailored to your business, your audience and your budget. It might include some or all of the following.
Content creation. Written content, video, graphics or a combination. All designed to answer the questions your customers are asking in a way that AI tools will pick up and cite.
Technical improvements. Structured data, schema markup, and website changes that help AI tools understand your content more clearly. We have our own Schema Generator that builds this for you.
Platform strategy. Where should your content live? Your website, YouTube, LinkedIn, TikTok, industry directories? The answer depends entirely on where your audience spends time.
Who does the work? We are honest about this. Sometimes it makes sense for our team to handle everything. Sometimes it is better for your internal team to create content with our guidance. And sometimes we bring in specialist partners, for example a professional video crew for high-quality production. We present the options and you decide what works best.
Then we measure what happens
GEO is not a set-and-forget exercise. We track results and report back to you regularly. Are you being cited more often in AI answers? Are the right queries triggering mentions of your business? Is your website seeing more traffic from people who found you through AI recommendations?
We use a mix of our own tools and industry-standard platforms to build reports that are clear, honest and actionable. If something is not working, we say so and adjust the approach.
Want to see what we find?
If you are curious but not ready to commit, we understand. We can run a few initial scans for your business to show you what we uncover. No obligation. No pressure.
It is your business. You know it better than anyone. Our job is to show you what the AI search landscape looks like from where you stand, and give you a clear, practical plan to improve your position in it.
If that sounds useful, get in touch. We will put the kettle on and have a proper conversation about what GEO could mean for you.
