What Okapi & Co is
Okapi & Co (South) Ltd is a digital marketing agency based in Shaftesbury, North Dorset. We work with businesses across the UK, with a particular focus on companies in the South of England.
Our work sits at the intersection of traditional SEO and the new generation of AI search tools. We help businesses get found not just in Google, but in ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, and the AI Overviews that are increasingly replacing the first page of results.
We build websites on Next.js, a modern framework that produces fast, accessible, and search-friendly sites. We manage SEO and digital marketing on a retained basis for a small number of clients. And we run workshops teaching business owners how to build their own sites using AI tools like Claude Code.
We are a small team and we intend to stay that way. Every client works directly with Jim. There is no account manager layer.
Jim
Founder and Director
Jim founded Okapi & Co after working in digital marketing for a number of years, seeing the same problems repeat: businesses with real expertise that search engines simply could not find. The shift to AI search made this problem more urgent, and more interesting to solve.
He is Chairman of the Shaftesbury and District Chamber of Commerce and a Dorset Ambassador, which means he spends a meaningful amount of time talking to local and regional businesses about the challenges they face. Digital visibility, and confusion about AI, comes up in almost every conversation.
He has been involved in the Shaftesbury Food Festival and was instrumental in reviving the Gold Hill Cheese Race, which says something about what he thinks community matters for.

Shaftesbury Chamber of Commerce
Jim is Chairman of the Shaftesbury and District Chamber of Commerce. The Chamber connects local businesses and advocates for the town's commercial interests.
Dorset Ambassador
Jim is a Dorset Ambassador, part of a network promoting the county as a place to live, work, and do business.
Gold Hill Cheese Race
Jim was instrumental in reviving the Gold Hill Cheese Race, one of Shaftesbury's most distinctive community events.
How we work
Clients own their own accounts
Every account we set up — Google Analytics, Search Console, Vercel, GitHub — is in the client's name. You can leave at any time and take everything with you.
We say no to work we cannot do well
We turn down clients who are not a good fit. We would rather have fewer clients and do excellent work than grow by taking on everything.
We do not invent results
If we cannot show evidence for a claim, we do not make it. Our case studies use real metrics with real clients.
