Jim leading an Okapi & Co workshop

By the end of the workshop you will have

  • A working Next.js project set up on your own computer
  • A homepage with your own content, headline, and brand colours
  • Your site deployed live on Vercel with a real URL
  • A basic understanding of how to add and edit pages yourself
  • A clear picture of what AI tools like Claude Code can and cannot do for you
  • Enough knowledge to have an informed conversation with any web developer

You do not need to be technical. You do not need to know how to code. You need a laptop, a willingness to try things, and a rough idea of what you want your website to say.

What the day looks like

01
9:00am

Morning: Setup and foundations

We get everyone's environment set up: Node.js, VS Code, Claude Code, and a GitHub account. We look at a live Next.js project and understand what the files actually do. No jargon.

02
10:30am

Build: Your homepage

Using Claude Code as your co-pilot, you write your first prompts and start building your homepage. We help you describe what you want clearly so Claude produces something useful.

03
12:30pm

Deploy: Your site goes live

We connect your project to Vercel and deploy it to a live URL. You will have something real to show people by lunchtime.

04
1:00pm

Afternoon: Q&A and next steps

We discuss what you have built, what you would change, and what a sensible path forward looks like for your specific website goals. Open Q&A.

Who this workshop suits

This workshop is a good fit if you

  • Run or manage a small business and have some responsibility for the website
  • Are curious about AI and want to see what it can actually do
  • Have tried website builders like Wix or Squarespace and wanted more control
  • Are a freelancer or consultant who could use a clean, professional site
  • Want to reduce your dependency on expensive developers for small changes

This workshop is probably not right if you

  • Need a complete production-ready website for a large business (we can build that for you instead)
  • Have no access to a laptop
  • Are looking for a general introduction to AI rather than a specific hands-on build experience
